FFFFOUND! SUMMER TIME
Jul 09

The Blue Note Records Festival in Ghent started last week (6th of July > 17th of July). Great lineup, although a bit prizy. But what strikes me the most is the fact that everyone is so concerned about that whole Shadow thing… “Hey, are you going to see Shadow?”. “Hey, you got your tickets for Shadow?”. Well, no! I don’t have tickets for Shadow. And no I’m not going to see Shadow. I saw Mr. Shadow 15 years ago in De Vooruit. The room was empty (this was an early Mo’Wax gig, people weren’t ready yet). Don’t get me wrong here, I love Shadow. Entroducing was groundbreaking!

But it seems that everyone is missing out that other great name on the list. I’m talking about Sly “The-Living-Legend” Stone. I’m talking about Sly “Hello-we-played-at-Woodstock-in-69-And-I-Bet-You-Weren’t-Even-Born-Back-Than” Stone. Well, I’ve got my eye on you, Stone! Let’s hope he makes it to Ghent. There’s a slight chance The Funkster Himself might miss the gig, refuse to play, or pass out from drug use… But I guess the 27 euros are worth the risk!

It sure is! At least for once in your life, you need to get funky with Sly. Taste and flavour won’t be be the same as back then when he ruled over coolness, but Sly has given soooo much to music that you cannot miss it. … And Love & Respect 2 Shadow too. :)

I’ll be right there in line waiting for the gig. But he won’t show up. I find it weird that they even got him on the bill. Cuz he won’t show. 101% certain. But I’ll be there. You can’t risk missing a miracle now can you?
